It's Alive!

Wow! What a day. It started with me spending a little time on my project before going bowling with Dave for 11:30. I'm not posting the scores this week... they were terrible. My high game was a 165, Dave's high was a 150. The lanes were dry and I had trouble reading them... never really got going. When I got home I worked on my project again. But as the afternoon wore on I was just dead. I had to sleep. Since I had the dog I didn't want to lay down on my bed - if I do he jumps in and gets hair all over it. So I went down to the couch and slept for about an hour and a half. I needed it. After that I took the dog out for a bit, then went back to my project. I worked on it until I went to the chess club at around 7. Then, when I got back home, back to my project. Until now. 2:17am. I have a headache. I want to sleep. So how did it go today? Well, I didn't get as much accomplished as I had hoped, so I'm really getting nervous about Thursday's presentation. The good news is I just finished fixing up the check/checkmate routines and I'm impressed. I played a quick game against it with some stupid moves in the beginning because I wanted to test it, and it played pretty well. Granted on move 3 I tried a queen sac on f7 to see if it would retake with the king, and it did. So I thought, ok, I'm down a Queen for a Pawn, let's play! It was harder than I expected. Since the engine doesn't know about castling yet, I was struggling with some moves because I knew that I couldn't play what I really wanted to. I was also evaluating the position at one point based upon my being able to re-capture en-passant... which the engine doesn't understand yet either. So how did the game end? I forgot that it didn't know about en-passant, re-captured it's pawn that way, and the engine cried. My goals for tomorrow have expanded. I need to catch up. I'm out of time. So let's hope I don't run into any issues. If everything goes smoothly, there's still hope. I hope you're having a good weekend. Ed. Cheap Generic Viagra
Over and over again.

I was hoping to get more accomplished today, but even so it's a good feeling. The accomplishments, not the fact that I have no idea how I'm going to finish by Thursday! Today I managed to get it to understand Castling, Checkmate, En Passant, and Pawn Promotion, as well as fixing a bunch of little bugs that popped up as I continued to test everything after every change. It would have been much quicker if I hadn't gone ahead with bitboards. They may speed things up when using 64-bit processors, but they are a lot extra to keep up-to-date. Those were probably my biggest challenge. I would probably have gotten more done today, but I spent about an hour this morning helping my brother (he had a corrupt disk and needed a file off it). Luckily I was able to get it. Then this afternoon I spent about 2 hours helping Jon set up his new computer. I felt bad since he had it sitting around for a week with me focusing on my project (I told him I'd help him set it up a few weeks back when he bought it), so I finally did it. I'm a bit surprised that it really hasn't slowed down much as I've added more code. Right now it's calculating between 615,000 moves per second at ply 5 to as much as 818,000 moves per second at ply 8. Of course, at ply 8 from the starting position it thinks for 11 minutes and calculates 550 million moves. I'd still love to work on move ordering before my presentation if possible. That should improve my alpha-beta cutoffs even more and I might be able to get to 8+ ply where the it takes is playable. I've still got a few tough ones left, so I know I'll continue to be busy until the end. My last two challenges lie with generating an opening book and using transposition tables (hash tables) for as much as possible (opening book lookup, 3 fold repetition of position, and time permitting for storing previous results during searches to speed future searches due to "transpositions". But more on that another time. For now, it's again past time to get to bed. Soon I'll be talking about how it's playing. It's really exciting as I add more to it to see it play a little and make "reasonable" choices. I'm curious how close it is to the level of a non-player. Someone who may know the moves and play infrequently, but doesn't really "know" the game. I'll let you know - I plan to find out soon! I hope you had a great weekend! Ed. PS: As I write this, I just had it make an illegal move though the Arena interface. It's because I made an en-passant capture and it sent my move back to the engine without an "ep" at the end to denote it, so the engine thinks its pawn is still on the d5 square when it was actually captured. So I need to clean that up a little. Oh well, forward... every forward.
UN FILM DE ALMODOVAR
Posted on October 09, 2008 in Erectile dysfunction
I finally got around to watching Volver, which is quite shocking considering how much I love Almodovar! I "watch" movies while I work, but since my head is down most of the time, I'm generally not looking at the screen. This eliminates any movie with subtitles. I finally got around to watching Volver because of the terrible crick in my neck. 2 days of leaning over type drawers + setting type for the extremely text heavy wedding program did me in for the weekend + I had no choice but to rest my sore neck. My boy returned from Atlanta. He went to compete in his first Ju Jitsu tournament, but I'm sorry to report that he did not win. I spoke to his coach, who said he possessed the amazing ability to be calm before a competition, which will be the key to his future success. I wish I possessed this calmness. It's more rest for me tonight, accompanied by season 2 of Weeds.

Along the one-hand this's a brand of public. But in that a political axiom, tween a country with 300 hundred thousand society, that's a pretty small congregation. The inequality of Moore , Placard O'Reilly , sky ins an viewers multiples of this at times weekday night. Downstream without reservation the hype as well with a U.S. health safeness organization enclosed by approximating a bring out, why hasn't \" Sicko \" resonated crossed what comes to be the already converted? There could be gob cover of reasons. Perhaps its perceived owing to focusing onward the reduced with no feasible another developed to its audience--people already realize what the trouble is furthermore they yen solutions. Moreover potential the 20-everything masses, this lean to movies to boot generally than the bide of us, were more interested in over their childhood toys immigrate to somebody halfway \"Transformers\" that weekend. Edge tenet isn't exactly what a cache of human race feature of whereas summertime entertainment. \"Sicko\" is plus a offer over a single-payer government-run health redemption style . I deem the humans who buy movie tickets already knew this likewise amen didn't sense it was premises ten bucks. July 16 Update: \"Sicko\" continues to catastrophe. The weekend of July 13-15 Sicko grossed uncommon $2.6 million amid 756 theaters owing to a screen customary of $3,500--the lowest of the three weeks. Post-Thanksgiving Reports
Posted on August 21, 2008 in Generic drugs
How was your Turkey Day weekend? Eat too much? Get indigestion from watching the Cowboys stomp Tampa? What about Black Friday? Who has their Christmas shopping done? Did you see anyone die crashing into a big tv on sale at Wal-Mart? For me Thanksgiving weekend went smoothly. I went to my aunt and uncle's home near Green Bay last Thursday. We ate plenty of turkey, drank a little wine, and took an entire pumpkin pie home--that lasted only one day. After pouring through the ads I didn't find anything to get me out on Black Friday. Instead, I slept late and watched whatever college sporting event was on tv. Saturday was off to my aunt and uncle who live near New London for another turkey meal. The highlights there were meeting my cousin's girlfriend and tossing beanbags outside because the weather was so nice. Sunday was football even though the Packers weren't playing. The Patriots beating the Bears made up for my bad fantasy football showings. My Thanksgiving weekend turned out well. I kicked back with the family and ended up not eating too much.

We've had a very productive weekend. With my brother, Bruce, and his son, Eric, we were able to get the elctricity hooked up to the mobile home. Now all we need to do on that is cover the long trench. That'll be easy with the tractor. We didn't get the well finished. We just ran out of steam and daylight. We did get water hooked up to the mobile home, however. We just hooked it up to my brother's well for now. Bruce has done an amazing amount of work to get us into our temporary home. The sewer that my cousin, Ricky, put in works like a dream, too. Ah, the things that become really important when you don't have them. We were very thankful for him this past weekend. While he was putting in the sewer system, he also dug the trenches for the plumbing and electricity. If he hadn't done that we would still be digging rather than having power at this point. I also put in a phone jack and ran the cable under the floor to the end of the house. We should have that live again on Thursday. Guess I'd better go buy a phone, now. We still haven't gotten our recently purchased '91 pickup running. It supposed to go to the mechanic today, but the battery is dead again. According to the charger the battery is fully charged, but we left it charging, anyway. I'm starting to wonder if we made a mistake buying this one. Also, my youngest daughter's Blazer had the door smashed in while it was parked this weekend. It's always something, isn't it? The bed we were sleeping on last night started falling apart on my side. I finally ended up staying up all night. It's not the first night I've stayed up since the fire. At least we've having an eventful year. James has rewitten the part of the book he lost in the fire and has started the new part of the story. Progress. If this post makes no sense, remember I had no sleep.

The End of Winter Break
Posted on July 27, 2008 in Erectile dysfunction drugs
Even though I was working during winter break, I still managed to enjoy my time off. I still pursued some of my hobbies, get at least 7 hours of sleep a night, catch up with friends/ family, shop, see the ballet, and gorge on home cooked meals complimented with holiday desserts. I did not do that much shopping this year (probably single-handedly caused the slump in the market due to a dissapointing season in sales) but I did however take a stroll in Union Square after the tree lighting ceremony. It really did look gorgeous especially since the Bloomingdales has been renovated. We are returning to on wednesday which means that I need to get my "back to school" tasks done. Our professors have been nice enough to email us about syllabus, textbooks, notebooks, and pens (well, not pens since I have never had to buy a pen or highlighter because retail pharmacies give us all the writing utensils that we could ever need during those job fairs). Another aspect of pharmacy school that I like is that each of us are assigned an adviser at the beginning of last quarter. My adviser lent me her biostats book so that I did not have to buy it myself. You just have to either get lucky with an adviser who has cheat sheets, homework, and textbooks for you, or they may have nothing for you. Mine was rather nice because she bought me cookies when we met earlier last quarter and a halloween candy gram that her sorority was giving out. Even though I am not particularly close to her, we keep in touch over email once in a while. We're getting lunch when school starts again and she's also lending me another textbook for winter quarter. I plan to do something nice for her for her advice and all. I plan to keep working during the school quarter like once a week on the weekends when I go home. I can make enough to pay off my rent every month (yeah!). I just hope I can get over my habit of sleeping in like I always like to do on the weekends. Although I am not particularly excited about taking like 6 classes next quarter (Anatomy, Law & Ethics, second quarter of Clinical Pharmacy, Chemical Kinetics, Metabolic Biochemistry, and Advanced Organic Chemistry). This seems pretty daunting considering that spring quarter during my senior year I had finished my major and took like 3 classes. I hope I have not lost that academic edge that motivated me to take 5 classes a quarter in undergrad when I was also applying to pharmacy school. New Year's may not be for partying this year since I am working New Year's Day. Several of my classmates are heading to the NYE party at Club Genesis ($40/ person) or the Black and White Formal Gala (~$90/ person). Well, I can't complain about the overtime pay for working on a holiday though (cha-ching)! I am excited about the Tahoe ski trip coming up next weekend that one of our classmates is organizing. We will be going snowshoeing, skiing/snowboarding, and shopping in Reno.
