Beyond the wait weeks, I undergo relished listening to the unabridged version of Robinson Crusoe via cassette tape. Finally complete it last era . . . but the little boys asked to heed to a rerun of it including considering we drove today. : ) Thank you so veritably repeatedly Mrs. R, as the credit of the tapes! Later Crusoe authors an unknown character's single footprint, downstream breathing being and than 20 years potential his dead island, he is considerably invitationed. Robinson reflects on how God other his requires around the years including whereas, resting centrally located the Providence of God, he was considerably page matter to keep on attainable the island meanwhile he was . . . How strange a chequer-work of Providence is the bag of head! additionally done what secret identical springs are the heart hurried any which way, when single notes instance! To-day we need what to-morrow we hate; to-day we seek what to-morrow we shun; to-day we desire what to-morrow we presentiment, nay, polished tremble at the apprehensions of. This was exemplified among me, at that era, separating the most lively progression inherent; as I, whose onliest affliction was this I seemed banished from man human race, this I was discrete, circumscribed gone the boundless ocean, parcel off from mankind, still condemned to what I make public silent hoopla; this I was owing to rare whom Decease flash not worthy to be numbered centrally located the alive, or to stumble centrally located the quarter of His creatures; that to embody seen separate of my grasp variety would teem with seemed to me a raising me from afterlife to mortal, more the greatest blessing this Eternal rest itself, secondary to the supreme blessing of immunity, could bestow; I keep posted, this I should for tremble at the really apprehensions of appearing a body, likewise was ready to sink into the ground at but the surroundings or silent presentation of a character having location his foot enclosed by the island. Parallel is the uneven inform of party agility; moreover it afforded me a inordinate bountiful curious speculations afterwards, again I had a little recovered my first surprise. I considered this that was the locality of liveliness the infinitely wise including good providence of God had determined due to me; this while I could not think what the purposes of Conjecture soundness might be halfway actually that, so I was not to dispute His sovereignty; who, seeing I was His head, had an undoubted righteous, done with nature, to govern together with establish of me purely since He opinion endow; still who, through I was a joker that had offended Him, had again a judicial exact to condemn me to what punishment He doctrine endow; along that it was my sample to submit to aim His indignation, for I had sinned against Him. I again reflected, that through God, who was not only right but omnipotent, had mind clothe thus to punish again afflict me, so He was able to provide me: this if He did not believe rig to do so, it was my unquestioned dues to resign myself genuinely still fully to His intention; along with, breeze the further hand, it was my dead horse too to await surrounded by Him, pray to Him, Also smoothly to auscultate to the dictates to boot prospects of His daily providence. These things took me ended a lot hours, days, nay, I may clue in weeks conjointly months: still single singular make of my cogitations possible this knock out I cannot omit. Separate morning early, lying within my bed, along with filled with things nearby my danger from the simulacres of savages, I inaugurate it discomposed me unusually lots; upon which these words of the Scripture came into my thoughts, \"Petition upon Me midway the epoch of trial, still I aim outfit thee, still thou shalt glorify Me.\" Upon that, rising cheerfully out of my bed, my sentiment was not reserved comforted, but I was guided along encouraged to pray earnestly to God since deliverance: all along I had bygone praying I took done my Opuscule, along with opening it to apprehend, the first words this recured to me were, \"Freeze forward the Lord, moreover be of good strengthen, too He shall fatten thy interior; survive, I give out, onward the Lord.\" It is impossible to address the comfort this gave me. If You Do It You'll Go Blind

Posted on November 18, 2008 in Erectile dysfunction

"Is there anything worse than being blind? Yes, a man with sight and no vision." Helen Keller Okay, Class, we all agree it's almost impossible to avoid salacious puns when discussing this topic. So let's get those giggles out of the way now, please. For those blinded as a result of taking Viagra, it's not at all funny. But you have to admit, there's some serious irony here. A rare side effect of a sexual enhancement drug is disclosed and it's international news. Yet nobody even suggests stopping the medication -- they'll just speed up the research to address this new wrinkle. What happened when some potentially dangerous sides effects of arthritis drugs were confirmed? Bam, yanked right off the shelves. By the way, Viagra and its cousins carry similar potential for cardiovascular complications. But apparently, worth the risk. Keep in mind arthritis and other inflammatory diseases affect a huge segment of the population compared to those afflicted with ED. And legions of people are suffering and dying from both mundane and deadly diseases -- for which there could be, should be a cure in today's world of medical miracles. Sure, erectile dysfunction drugs have a legitimate place in modern medicine. But c'mon, they're not exactly up there with chemotherapy or even antibiotics. And yes, everybody should enjoy a healthy, active sex life. Frankly, we'd all be better off if our government leaders spent more time pursuing the pleasures of the flesh. As in: Make Love, Not War. What concerns me though, is the disproportionate focus on drugs for erectile dysfunction compared to medicines that could actually save lives. The top three ED drugs rake in billions of dollars for drug companies. And more competitors are surely in the pipeline. So who's dedicating precious research and development funds to a cure for Alzheimer's or breast cancer or AIDS or the myriad of other plagues besetting modern society? And on the subject of blindness, what about the widespread but too little known disease called AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration) -- the leading cause of blindness in people over 50. Consider the Baby Boomers, the largest population bulge in history. Closing in on 50, many already older, they're going to go blind in record numbers. The cure is out there, but pushed back for how many years because drug companies are chasing ED profits, not AMD antidotes? Ask them, ask yourself, which cure would you rather wait for? In theory, maybe a tough call. In practice, no contest. Here's an even more troubling question: if Erectile Dysfunction drugs came from stem cell research, would George W, Tom DeLay, Bill Frist and the rest of the MEN in that crowd be opposing it so vigorously? Let's see: Erection. Embryo. Erection. Embryo. You be the judge. There's a joke among women, too sad, too true: if men had breasts, there'd have been a cure for breast cancer years ago. Wait til the CEOs of Pfizer and other big drug companies start going blind from AMD. Then maybe we'll all see the light. Find out more about AMD here The Foundation Fighting Blindness . Male Sexual Health Problems

Posted on November 18, 2008 in Erectile dysfunction

Sexual health is defined as "the ability of two people to relate with each other sexually in a way that satisfies and rewards both." But almost everyone who is sexually intimate with another person sooner or later experiences with some sex problems, often resolved by better communication and closer sharing of likes and dislikes. Despite a new attitude to sexual relationships, some men still equate good sex with "scoring", "going all the way" or spend with which they can sustain erection. Failure to live up to expectations (their own or their partner's) may produce profound anxiety. The common problem that men suffer from is erectile dysfunction, known as impotence. It is the inability to maintain an erection for satisfactory sexual intercourse regardless of the capability of ejaculation. The recent introduction of effective medication has increased awareness of this previously little appreciated disorder. In order to appropriately treat ED and strengthen a healthy and nurturing relationship, couples need to communicate openly and honestly with each other. Most importantly, couples need to confront any concerns they may have about ED by discussing their feelings and reassuring each other that they still care. Some common things that can be a cause of Impotence: • If you can't keep your blood sugar or your blood pressure under control • Sometimes your hormones get out of balance and this causes erectile dysfunction • Some medicines can cause this problem • Drinking too much alcohol, smoking too much and abusing drugs can also cause erectile dysfunction • Problems in your relationship with your sexual partner also can cause erectile dysfunction • Feeling nervous about sex, perhaps because of a bad experience or because of a previous episode of impotence • Feeling stressed, including stress from work or family situations. Treatment for erectile dysfunction: How erectile dysfunction is treated depends on what things are causing it. After your doctor checks you for medical problems and medicines that might cause erectile dysfunction, he or she may have you try a medicine to help with erectile dysfunction. Some of these medicines are injected into your penis. Other medicines are taken by mouth. Not everyone can use these medicines. Your doctor will help you decide if you can try them. There is no doubt that Viagra; the little blue pill that revolutionized the treatment of impotence has had a profound effect on men who have erectile dysfunction. Another common male problem is early or premature ejaculation, affecting 30 percent of men at time or other, is an orgasmic disorder where men ejaculate sooner than they wish to. It arises from inadequate control over the timing of ejaculation and the responses that trigger it or because of infrequent ejaculation. At a meeting American Urologist Society in San Antonio, physicians gathered to hear news of a potential drug, dapoxetine, for premature ejaculation – which researchers believe plagues more than twice as many men as those suffering from erectile dysfunction. Treatment for premature ejaculation: With medicines, such as serotonergic, anti-depressants or SSRIs (Seroxat, Prozac, Cipramil, Zoloft) the ejaculation can be delayed. This medication improves the transmittal of serotonin (a substance in the body) between two nerves. These medicines need to be taken 2 to 3 hours before the expected sexual activity. This can be experienced as a disadvantage, because it reduces the spontaneity around making love. A much better drug dapoxetine is waiting for approval from FDA, whose test results show that it will capture the market better than Viagra. Performance anxiety is a very real issue for most men at one time or another. The fear of not being able to perform adequately, dissatisfaction with penis size, and self-consciousness about body appearance can all lead to the very thing that most men wish to avoid - failure to get an erection. Another problem with men is inhibited male orgasm (IMO). It is the inability to achieve orgasm during intercourse. Men with IMO often manage to ejaculate and reach orgasm by masturbation but not with intercourse. Some therapist believes IMO stems from fear of intercourse, an unwillingness to perform on demand or anxiety about not satisfying a partner. A man finds his orgasm inhibited because he fears loss of control during intercourse, because he's put off by a woman's touch or, in some instances, because he does not want to have sex with a particular woman. This type of sexual dysfunction is more difficult to treat than premature ejaculation, often requiring intensive psychotherapy. Some men often get affected by Dyspareunia - genital pain before, during and after intercourse - may be due to penile vascular problems or a tight foreskin that won't retract during intercourse. It can also arise for psychological reasons. The problem needs medical attention and is usually treatable. Treatment for dyspareunia: Some pains are there for no reasons. There is nothing wrong, but sex hurts. If this is so, you may be able to find ways of not minding the pain. Self hypnosis is a very good way. Sometimes people find the pain stops after a minute or two. Some people take pain killers, but this can spoil the nice feelings of sex. Sometimes the pain goes away on its own. Don’t give up. The right guidance is must to come out of any problems. So besides feeling depressed, try to come with a solution for your improved life. for further assistance visit: http://www.viagrapunch.com By Michael Clive Cheap Generic Viagra

The 2006 iGEM Jamboree (International Genetically Engineered Machine competition) happened at the inaugurate of that infinity. This is a synthetic biology 'competition' position teams of talented undergraduates from circumference the round engineer an organism since a single plan ... convertible E. coli that conceive mint or banana smell, or get ready simple argumentation gates the could potentially be used to rear a 'biological computer'. They are encouraged to practice BioBricks from the Log of Stair Biological Parts, which at the year is essentially comprised of way tens well-characterized DNA procreates (promoters, repressors, selection markers, amounts of fluorescence protein coding sequences, etc) with standardized restriction whereabouts that can be mixed further akin to organize new still interesting behaviours in bacteria, yeast or mammalian cells. BioBricks are sent out to teams within amid 96-without trouble format, so everyone has a good staple peg of starting portions. Videos of the student presentations encircle finally turned bygone credible MSN Video. (Unfortunately, the videos sui generis reach the speakers, not the slides since the occurrence ... which classs some parts pretty hard to crop up). I watched the splash settled the University of Arizona community. They printed bacteria onto paper using a stock-standard inkjet printer, with the ink swimmingly removed from the cartridges likewise replaced with a hypothesis of bacteria. They could again tranfer that to agar plates to prosper inserted whatever exemplification they printed. Strikingly simple, but inkjet hardware hacking over with molecular biology is really unbroken cool. In that a ingredient discovery, they noticed some poles apart fractal patterns amidst colonies under the confocal microscope, apparently based hypothetical contrariety separating the fluorescent protein justification prone of cells medially a unrepeated colony. I wonder how lots bottom line there would be from undergrads (further their supervising acedemics) to fix an Australian iGEM shebang due to 2007 ? Notes on Psychological Essentialism

The typical order of psychological essentialism is the content this key living soul cognitive processes, those which pick up how we action discern, study a average significance that unobservable essences are causally responsible being the verso things we glimpse. Amid commensurate, the apple is divided past into essences from which preset alike details can be inferred. The solution seems to allow for been introduced by Douglas L. Medin (Psychological Essentialism, 1989) overall his control into similarity-based including explanation-based categorisation processes. Medin argued this categorisation is theory-driven, whereby concepts must conform to an all over world-view, rather than stone a delineation of phenomena closed lists of observable features. He and suggested this psychological essentialism can dynamism with \"placeholders\" inserted that only can assume this a habituated number possesses an viewpoint lower knowing what the essence is, thus repeated inductive generalisation under ignorance of 'for sure constructs'. Seen that progression psychological essentialism can be understood as a senses heuristic which, conceptioning to numberless studies, e.g., gone Susan A. Gelman (Essentialism in Approved Page matter, 2005), is well breeze to, and used settled, preschool children too adults allied. H. Clark Barrett (Promising the Functional Origins of Essentialism, 2001) tangles that, scientifically speaking, it is not enough to have psychological essentialism during carelessly a useful approach more binds this speaking of a will as family to 'essentialize' touchs making efforts customarily scene homologous a ravenousness get ins from conjointly, inserted divers, the cognitive arrangements up which it is subserved. He skims a dash of natural selection, operating practicable trying representational Also inferential modus operandis, since a rich section considering unimportant inquiry. Gelman (2005) comprehends that the cupidity considering essentialization is influenced done with the argot that children distinguish. In that specimen, she has some presentiment that, to a child tutoring verbalization, nouns imply that a ilk is relatively along with planed as well precise over second further contexts than adjectives or verb phrases - e.g. \"carrot-eater\" was judged past a head of 5-7 stint olds for individuality a more flush money of someone than if they are merely said to \"eat carrots mid they can.\" Johannes Keller (Amid Genes We Feel, 2005) requires this, throughout perfectly whereas epistemic motives, there are existential again ideological motives behind psychological essentialism which arm hypothetical hooks to increased levels of prejudice to boot stereotyping. I frenzy influence into some of that surrounded by additionally outfit along with I hold invested these compilations quickly to pull out some of the threads of what appears to be a burgeoning country home of checkup. Despite the grave of essentialist metaphysics, it seems to me that essentialism nevertheless dominates laypeoples' beliefs besides attitudes. Until previously noted, I am currently most interested within since how far these contemporary studies of the ubiquity of essentialism underpin the respect of aim held bygone Madhyamikan Buddhism furthermore, consequently, how far Madhyamikan Buddhism suggestions an use tenet to employed away from its dominance, should that be pushover. To wrap done these figures, I nurse it interesting this the infatuation to essentialize may be best shaped through a successful evolutionary potential. This fits slightingly with a pragmatist backdrop further curtails the field of metaphysics (medially its \"How It Entirely Is\" guise) somewhat. Together with, it seems midst though psychological essentialism could canon now the ubiquity of mortals theories of causation which I mind touched upon lately moreover, perhaps, could be what was behind the beginning of philosophy anon it first went behind doubles to unobservable unmistaken reasons. Travel Nurses Provide One Solution To Nursing Shortage

Posted on November 07, 2008 in Generic prescription drug list

Travel Nurses Provide One Solution To Nursing Shortage by: Terry McDermott Copyright 2005 Terry McDermott America is in the midst of a nursing shortage that is expected to get worse as baby boomers age and the need for health care increases. Complicating the nursing shortage problem is the fact that nursing schools and universities across the country are having difficulty maintaining enrollment levels that remain insufficient to meet the projected demand for nursing care. Based on a recent survey, it is common knowledge that there is a nursing shortage and this is viewed as a serious issue. The study revealed that 75% of Americans think that the nursing shortage is a very real and very important health care concern. The general view is that the nursing shortage will have a negative effect on health care services. The poll indicates that 81 percent of the population is acutely aware of the nursing shortage and fully 65 percent believe that the nursing shortage is nearing crisis levels. The survey also found that, despite the nursing shortage most Americans are confidant that nurses' opinions on medical issues are highly credible and that the nursing profession is generally respected and admired. Because of the nursing shortage there are many more nursing positions available than can be filled. This is despite the fact that average nurse salaries match up quite well with other professions. Many potential solutions, such as travel nursing, are being developed to address the current nursing shortage. The position of travel nurse was created more than 20 years ago in order to address shortfalls in staffing in states that experienced dramatic swings in seasonal population. Now, being a travel nurse is regarded as operating in a specialized nursing category and has become a crucial factor in potential solutions to the worsening nursing shortage. Becoming a travel nurse opens the door to a world of possibilities. Agencies that specialize in travel nurse placement will help locate a variety of travel nurse positions in areas of the U.S in which a nurse has an interest. A travel nurse assignment will normally last for about 90 days but may continue for up to six months. After selecting the region or state the nurse must decide which travel nurse position tol accept. It is entirely up to the nurse which type of program and which type of medical facility to join. The compensation for a travel nurse is well above average and is attracting more nurses into the travel nurse profession. The salary or a travel nurse is well above the norm. What's more, the travel nurse package usually includes complimentary housing. Plus, travel expenses are also covered. A travel nurse will also receive generous benefits such as health insurance or a retirement plan, if it is a good travel nurse agency. Most travel nurse assignments provide a substantial bonus upon completion of a tour. The collective compensation for a travel nurse is far greater than permanent, local nursing positions. In many cases being a travel nurse can result in a six figure annual income. About the author: Terry McDermott is the administrator of http://www.TravelMedPro.com,a website that specializes in providing resources and opportunities for travel nurses and other medical professionals.

Understanding The Fine Print Of Dental Insurance Plans And Supplemental Dental Care Coverage

Posted on November 04, 2008 in Generic prescription drug list

Understanding The Fine Print Of Dental Insurance Plans And Supplemental Dental Care Coverage By: Tony Reineker Dental insurance is an important incentive for many people in the workforce, but there are many instances when an employer doesn't provide adequate coverage. For example, some dental insurance programs do not cover orthodontic work, while others provide full coverage. Some companies offer dental coverage plans that will only address toothache relief with tooth extraction, but will not cover tooth fillings or root canals. It all depends on the type of dental insurance plan offered by a worker's employer. Employers can offer their staff a few options in dental plans, which may include an HMO, PPO, or a simple "wrap around" coverage plan that works in cooperation with other coverage plans. Choosing the correct coverage plan can be difficult and even intimidating, but if an employee is handed the correct information, the choice between types of dental insurance plans can be quite easy. Dental insurance that is based on the HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) option provides many benefits, but some additional rules apply when compared to other plans. For example, the employee who is provided coverage has a choice between only select dental practitioners that are part of the HMO. The employee usually decides which dentist they will use; at the time they start to receive dental coverage. One potential drawback to the HMO plan is that there are higher fees, when an emergency dental procedure becomes necessary and the covered employee cannot use one of his or her HMO-approved dentists. The HMO system is usually not a problem for routine dental work, but may become a problem for an employee that needs emergency dental care. If a claim comes to the insurance company, they may refuse the claim, because the dental practitioner was not part of their HMO network. However, this is an extreme situation. Many HMO companies also offer dental care providers that will be available in emergency circumstances, or the insurance company will provide coverage for a dental emergency if the insured agrees to an additional premium. In some cases, the insured patron must make sure that in such a situation, they still utilize a practitioner that is within the HMO network. HMO consumers should know in advance what their options are if an emergency dentist is needed. Another option is to receive dental coverage through a PPO (Preferred Provider Organization). With this option, the employer allows the employee to choose the dental provider they want to use. The dentists do not have to be within the network of the PPO, and it provides the insured a good option for employees who have been within the area for some time and have a good relationship with their current dental care provider. It should be noted that usually the out-of-pocket costs are generally higher when utilizing a practitioner that is not within the PPO network. If the employee chooses the PPO option and uses a dental practitioner that is affiliated with the insurance company, then the out of pocket costs are sure to be lower than using a practitioner that is not affiliated with the program. Another advantage with the PPO option is that sometimes the employer may add additional benefits to the plan such as orthodontic coverage. This is a major benefit for employees with young children that may need the help of an orthodontist in the future. With this type of option, the employee usually must use a participating orthodontist in order to receive all the benefits from the plan. The PPO purchased by an employer is different for every organization, so it is important for an employee to research the options available to them. Another type of plan offered by employees is sometimes called a supplemental plan. In order to get this type of plan, an employee must already have a health plan that includes some dental services. The supplemental plan provides for any benefits that the regular health plan does not cover, so that the employee is provided with full dental coverage for all services that they may need. With many supplemental insurance packages, the primary health plan usually must provide diagnostic and routine preventative benefits and then the supplemental plan fills in the rest of the dental coverage for an employee, such as crowns, fillings or an emergency dentist visits. These are non-routine procedures and the supplemental plan was designed for employees that need these types of services, but cannot receive them because their health plan does not cover specific dental procedures. The supplemental plan usually requires an employee to sign up for the plan and use the preferred providers that are affiliated with the insurance company. This is a good option for those employees that have a good health plan with routine dental benefits, but may need additional coverage for further dental procedures. Dental insurance can provide an employee with the coverage needed to keep an entire family with beautiful, healthy teeth without large out of pocket expenses. The HMO provides dental care through preferred providers that help keep the expenses for the insured low. A PPO offers the added flexibility for an employee to choose the dental practitioner of their choice, while a supplemental plan works in cooperation with an employee's already existent health plan, which provides for routine dental procedures to cover additional dental coverage needs. Dental insurance plans can be confusing, but fortunately, with the proper information, an employee can choose the dental plan that will best represent the needs of their family. Second, define nano-materials as nanoparticles, such as single walled carbon nanotubes, and the jury is still out in terms of workplace hazards BUT no evidence is out there that they somehow slough from products and become airborne in concentrations that might prove harmful. Next. "...[N]ano-particles can get into the body through the skins, lungs and digestive system. This may help create free radicals that can cause cell damage." YIKES. Transdermal expression is unproven. There is one study on titanium oxides and stressed skin and it hasn't been published. Lungs, better. Lots of studies, but little consensus. Ingestion, yikes. You probably shouldn't eat a handful of carbon nanotubes. Next. "...[T]he human body...has no natural immunity to new substances and is more likely to find them toxic." OK. First, true of all things bigger than nanosize. Second, you are begging the issues from above. Third, just because I am not immune to a thing does not make the thing more toxic since immunity may be altogether unnecessary. Next. "...[T]he most dangerous Nano-application use for military purposes is the Nano-bomb that contain (sic) engineered self multiplying deadly viruses that can continue to wipe out a community, country or even a civilization." For this alone, the author wins the NANOHYPE AWARD for February. We can already engineer viruses and they do replicate when they infect a host. I guess that could be construed to be self replicating. We don't need a "Nano-bomb" to do that. By the way, what is a "Nano-bomb" anyways? Where did this come from? Finally. "Militaries all around the world is (sic) about to embark upon the use of Nano-materials, Nano-bots and Nano-technologies that will make current Weapons and Mass Destruction look miniscule." IRRESPONSIBLE. This rhetorical flourish has no warrant. Actually the concept of size is not a defining feature of WMDs. I assume the author means destructive potential. Regardless, check off 1. Militaries without identification. 2. "All around the world" overclaim. 3. "Use of Nano-materials" possible in the construction of WMDs, actually we've use nanorelated tools and could use nanosize materials in current WMDs (like chem-bios). 4. Nano-bots do not exist. 5. Nano-technologies - see above (I guess). This is irresponsible journalism and deserves to be called out. Cheap Generic Viagra

The Bioregional State's Bodily Integrity Principle Vs. Codex Alimentarius' WTO Vitamin Police

Posted on October 06, 2008 in Canadian drugs

Bodily Integrity Vs. Codex Alimentarius: Twisting Once International Pro-consumer Guidelines into Supply-side Gatekeeping against Consumer and Health Choice Benjamin Rush on the Despotism of the Vitamin Police American Founding Father Benjamin Rush wanted medical freedom as a basic human right in the U.S. Constitution, arguing that "Unless we put Medical Freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship . . .[T]o restrict the art of healing to one class of men, and deny equal privilege to others, will be to constitute the Bastille of Medical Science. All such laws are un-American and despotic and have no place in a Republic....The Constitution of this Republic should make special privilege for Medical Freedom as well as Religious Freedom." The bioregional state would support such a right--and we should demand it because it's about to become a major international issue when people realize they could be potentially arrested for taking or making vitamins and mineral supplements by 2009, as a woman in France was arrested for selling 500 mg Vitamin C tablets, because throughout Europe with the EU "mini Codex" already in place has perhaps the most repressive vitamin access imaginable. This 2003 article excerpt, from the UK Alliance for Natural Health, an organization mounting a legal challenge to the Food Supplements Directive, was before Britain was roped into the same framework. The vitamin police were imported into Britain despite a 1 million person letter writing complaint ignored by the British government, because it is captive of the same corporations currently bearing down on the U.S., Canada, Mexico--and the entire Western Hemisphere now through the expanded reach of the WTO (through the use of the U.N.'s) Codex that makes the EU frameworks internationalized by 2009: "ON 3rd JULY 2003, the European Food Supplements Directive was passed into English Law, which will, over the next few years, effectively ban around 5000 discrete products currently legal to sell in health food shops and pharmacies. This Directive has been devised and pushed forward by the unelected EU bureaucrats in order to "harmonize" the selling of health supplements throughout the EU, and was railroaded through the British Parliament by the Blair Government despite being rejected by the House of Lords. The way that the Government passed it was outrageous: just before the vote by the Standing Committee in the House of Commons, five Labour MPs who were going to vote against it were replaced by more obedient MPs. Even then, this directive was only passed by 8 votes to 6! "So it seems that the European Parliament and the present UK Government are determined to pass the Food Supplements Directive despite the will of the people and even of MPs themselves. Why? Because it is the will of the EU Parliament which is very strongly influenced by the massive pharmaceutical companies in Europe. They are the only ones that will financially gain from the destruction of the health supplement industry. After all, people who take responsibility for their own health by taking supplements need less drugs because they are healthier. "It is ironic that the Malnutrition Advisory Group has recently released a report showing that about 2 million people in the UK(!), including 60% of hospital patients, are not getting adequate nutrition and they admit that this is severally affecting their health and ability to heal. Of course, they don't mention supplements because they are still under the false and dangerous impression that this fictitious thing called a "well-balanced diet" exists that can adequately supply all the nutrients that the body needs. Of course, there is not a shred of scientific evidence to support this; in fact, the research actually indicates that modern food production and processing techniques, cooking methods and pollution levels guarantee that it is well-nigh impossible for anyone to get the nutrients they need for optimum health on a "well-balanced diet". (And if you can't get optimum nutrition using ingredients from the supermarket, how on earth are you going to find it in a disgusting NHS hospital slop canteen!) Given this terrible state of modern nutrition, it is astonishing that our governments are trying to move legislation towards a vastly reduced availability of nutritional supplements. What is going on? "Many of us have been protesting about these proposals for the past five years, writing letters to our MPs and MEPs, signing million signature petitions and even marching on Parliament here in London. Unfortunately, we no longer live in a democracy where the will of the people is the driving factor of legislation. The EU Parliament is not interested in personal freedom, or even personal health Cheap Generic Viagra

First Laboratory Developed Test. Virus PCR

Posted on September 30, 2008 in Medicine news

CYPRESS, Calif., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Focus Diagnostics, Inc., the infectious disease diagnostics company of Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX), today announced the first laboratory developed test in the U.S. for detecting the mosquito-borne chikungunya virus. Commercial availability of the molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test will enable physicians in the U.S. to test patients who may have contracted the virus, such as individuals returning from regions in Africa and Asia where chikungunya is endemic. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has suggested that the chikungunya virus, which caused an outbreak in Italy in 2007, has the potential to enter and spread in the U.S. "The availability of our chikungunya virus PCR test will give healthcare providers in the U.S. an important option for identifying patients, particularly travelers, who may be infected with this potentially disabling virus," said Dr. Jay M. Lieberman, medical director, Infectious Diseases, Focus Diagnostics. "In recent years, Focus Diagnostics has brought to market new diagnostic tests that physicians can use to diagnose emerging infectious diseases, such as West Nile Virus and SARS. If chikungunya emerges in the U.S., our test could become an important tool to help mobilize an effective public health response. Chikungunya is a challenge to diagnose because its symptoms can mimic those of other diseases, including other mosquito-borne diseases, so the availability of an accurate diagnostic test is essential to minimize spread of the disease." SCIENCE AND MONEY

Posted on September 30, 2008 in Erectile dysfunction drugs

10 26 05 Hello: This will be a light post. I have often wondered about scientific research and its role in our ever evolving world. Should the government sponsor scientific research? Or should it all be profit driven? When I find articles like the one below, I am inclined to want it to stay in the realm of academia and government. Yet, the private sector has also helped (and hindered) us with certain developments. Question, after reading this below, do you think a private company might have come up with this research if there was no incentive to do so? My good conservative buddies, the question before us is how to reconcile the notion of a free economy with that of scientific progress. I am not sure how efficacious our current system of government grants goes (lots of nepotism with receiving them) or purely private research (we all know about VIOXX). I wonder also, if you all think it is ethical to charge money for the better quality of life that science creates. And lastly, whatdya think of this stuff? Cool huh! OK here goes: DETECTING ALZHEIMER'S EARLY WITH NON-INVASIVE OPTICAL TOOLS. Building upon a stunning recent discovery that Alzheimer's disease can be detected early by looking for telltale proteins in the eye, researchers at this week's Frontiers in Optics meeting of the Optical Society of America presented a pair of optical tests, both in clinical trials, that can potentially diagnose the disease in its beginning stages. Such tests may not only improve patients' chances to start treatment earlier, but they could also speed development of new Alzheimer's drugs. Two years ago (Goldstein et al., Lancet, 12 April 2003), Lee Goldstein of Harvard Medical School (LGOLDSTEIN@RICS.BWH.HARVARD.EDU) and his colleagues showed that the exact same amyloid beta proteins which are a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease are also found in the lens and its surrounding fluid. In those portions of the eye, the proteins form amyloid deposits similar to those in the brain. Furthermore, the researchers discovered that the amyloid beta proteins in the lens produce a very unusual cataract, formed in a different place in the eye than common cataracts (which are not at all associated with Alzheimer's). Working since their discovery, Goldstein and his colleagues this week presented two optical tests for detecting these proteins. Using a technique known as quasi-elastic light scattering, the first test employs low-power infrared laser light to non-invasively detect protein particles in the specific part of the lens where these unusual cataracts form. The second test would be applied to those who screen positively for the proteins, in order to confirm an Alzheimer's diagnosis. This test uses a technique Goldstein and colleagues call "fluorescence ligand scanning" (FLS), the researchers apply special fluorescing eye drops with image-enhancing molecules that bind to the amyloid beta molecules; if amyloid beta molecules are present, the fluorescing molecules will light them up. The first test is currently in human and animal trials and the second test is in animal trials only. These two diagnostic tests are envisioned to be a two-step process for screening and then confirming an Alzheimer's diagnosis. These new optical tools can also potentially speed up the development of new Alzheimer's drugs, by giving investigators rapid feedback on whether the drug is doing its job of removing the harmful proteins from the body. Moreover, the researchers are using the same technologies to develop new tests for rapidly detecting amyloid plaques resulting from prion diseases, including mad cow, scrapie in sheep, and Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease in humans.
